JOS – The Association of Christian Schools in Nigeria, ACSN has asked all people of goodwill to rise up and rescue faith based schools even as it urges the governor and government of Kwara State to desist from intimidating such schools but allow justice and peace to prevail in that State.

ACSN spoke on the heels of the hijab crisis in Christian/Mission schools which has led to the closing of about 10 schools in the State.

Addressing journalists in Jos on Wednesday, the National President of ACSN, Dr. Ekaette Ettang in company of other officials and members of the association stressed the need for every citizen of the country to acknowledge the peculiarities of one another and accord respect to such uniqueness.

Her words, “ACSN, the umbrella body for all Christian/Mission schools is shocked and thoroughly embarrassed by the thinking pattern and the resulting actions of the Kwara state government in forcefully closing down the Christian/mission schools merely on the issue of uniforms. Duly registered schools with their own unique Christian identity closed down for insisting on maintaining their Christian identity?

“Has that suddenly become a crime in Nigeria or only in Kwara State? This is a very dangerous development, if not immediately checked and nipped at the bud. It is time to know that we are not just private schools but faith based schools and have our unique identity, we deserve to be treated as such. It is time to accord recognition and respect to our peculiarities and uniqueness.”

“It is a privilege to be admitted and to attend Christian schools and not a right. If Christian children choose Muslim schools, they will be expected to abide by the schools policies and rules obtained there. We call on all concerned Muslims elders, all Governors forum should rise and rescue faith based schools. Christian elders, godly politicians, people of goodwill should rise and blunt this emerging sword. Let there be justice in Kwara State, let there be peace in Kwara State”,Ettang said.
