Candidates of three political parties contesting for the Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno federal constituency seat in Akwa Ibom State have stepped down for Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
The candidates are, Mr. Iniokim Etuk of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Evang. Emmanuel Itiat, of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Mr. Gabriel Bassey, of Action Democratic Party (ADP).
The trio in a press release maintained that their decision to support and handover their supporters to the APC candidate was voluntary and borne out of their desire to have a ranking member who understands the need of the people and is ready to give Eket federal constituency effective representation in the green chamber.
They said Hon. Eyiboh, is the most qualified, most experienced, most compassionate, most committed to human and community development among those contesting for the seat.
“We the undersigned candidates of various political parties for Eket, Esit Eket, Onna, Ibeno federal constituency having consulted widely with our teeming supporters, youths, women and elders in the federal constituency have unanimously and voluntarily decided to sacrifice our interest to contest for the position of House of Representatives in the forthcoming general election in favour of Hon. Eseme Eyiboh of the All Progressives Congress”.

“Our position is informed by the collective desire of the federal constituency to send Hon Eseme Eyiboh back to the National Assembly as a ranking member and for effective representation of our federal constituency”, the release read.
The candidates appealed to their supporters, associates and the entire people of Eket federal constituency to support Eyiboh.
Hon Eyiboh was the spokesperson of the 6th House of Representatives; Dean, faculty board of initiatives(a public policy think tank and intellectual platform and constructive legislative engagements)in the lower national legislature; and Speaker of the West African Institute of Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM), a regional forum for legislators.
When he declared to run for the House of Representatives last year, Eyiboh told journalists that he is seeking to return to the green chambers to leverage on his network, political and legislative experience to jump-start development in Eket federal constituency.
“The responsibilities of the National Assembly are lawmaking, oversight and appropriations. You need someone with sufficient depth and unrivaled gift of the garp with full knowledge of various legislative tendencies. Of all the people contesting, I am the most qualified. So, I want to return to the National Assembly to use my networks and capacity to bring to bear in my federal constituency the possibilities that abound in this federation”, he said.
