Marhai forest reserve in Wamba local government area of Nasarawa state has been designated a National park by the federal government of Nigeria.
The federal government has designated Marhai forest reserve as one of the 10 newly acquired National parks and has fixed January 27, 2023 as the takeover date.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Nasarawa State, Mr. Kwanta Yakubu, said the state has commenced the process to ensure a hitch-free transition.
Addressing a joint stakeholders meeting of federal and state government officials from relevant ministries at the National Park Service, Abuja, Mr. Yakubu said the transition process of Marhai forest reserve will commence in the second week of February.

Hon. Kwanta made the disclosure on Wednesday at the stakeholders meeting of the Federal and State Governments at National Park Service, Abuja, that the State is committed to partnerships at all times towards achieving its objectives.
He said funds for logistics and other activities have been released.
“The Conservator of National Park Service informed the meeting that the Federal Government has released Five Hundred Million Naira to provide vehicles, motorcycles, arms and ammunitions for forest guards, as well as patrol, camping and office equipment for the ten newly acquired National Parks in the country”, Kwanta hinted.
The Commissioner disclosed that there are plans to secure partnership with the World Bank Assisted ACReSAL Project to provide mobility, water and staff quarters for the parks.
