The returning officer of the Anambra 2021 gubernatorial election, Professor Florence Obi, has announced the suspension of the collation exercise and declaration of the actual winner of the election.
Professor Obi said, “INEC going by the constitution must ensure that voting exercise is done in all local governments of the State, and a winner must score the highest number of vote cast and 25 percent of vote cast in at least 2/3 of the local governments areas of the state.”
“Given the fact that the elections were not held in Ihiala local government area of the State, it is imperative that the Commission result to a supplementary election to enable electorates of the affected local government exercise their franchise and thereafter a winner can be declared.”

The returning officer said the major reason the commission did not deploy for election in Ihiala local government area was due to security threat.
So far results from 20 local government areas have been collated and APGA candidate, Professor Charles Soludo, is projected as winning in 18 local government areas.
Observers have said that the election was peaceful contrary to the earlier fears that there could attacks by IPOB’s secessionist army.
