Jos – Nine post- graduate students of the department of Film Culture and Archiving Studies are to benefit from the Goethe University, Frankfurt/DAAD scholarship programme.
Six of the students will benefit from the domestic component of the scholarship which includes monthly residence grant of 425 Euros which is the equivalent of N184,520.
They are to also enjoy a grant of 425 Euros or N184,520 per semester to cover tuition fees for the time span of the scholarship.
Similarly, three of the students will benefit from the foreign component of the scholarship valued at 7,925 Euros, and a-6 month internship programme with the Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, University of Jos, Abdullahi Abdullahi, said the scholarship covers
international travel logistics, a monthly residence (accommodation and living costs in Frankfurt, Germany) and a grant to attend a five-week German Language course at Frankfurt offered by any online language provider of the beneficiary’s choice.

The Master Degree Programme in Film Culture and Archival Studies is a collaborative programme jointly offered by the University of Jos, Nigerian Film Corporation/National Film Institute, Jos and German Institutions including Goethe University, Frankfurt, Arsenal Institute for Film and Video Art Berlin as well as Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (DAAD).
Abdullahi added, “The programme aims to enhance learning opportunities among Nigerians and Africans as a whole, specifically in the area of Archiving Studies and practices, by providing to the successful applicants an opportunity to pursue the Postgraduate (Master) Degree programme.
“The objective is to train students that will become experts and global leaders in the field of Film Culture and Archival Studies; Restoration, Digitization, Preservation, Codification, Classification of Creative Works and Audiovisual Heritage as well as other related human endeavors.
“The Scholarship programme offers the applicant opportunity to access funds for school fees support, research support and other related activities for the programme.”
He further disclosed, “Interested applicants have another opportunity to apply for the 2021 Goethe University, Frankfurt/DAAD Scholarship programme as the University of Jos and the National Film Institute (NFI), Jos are inviting qualified African and Nigerian Students to apply for the 2021 round of the programme.

“Eligible Students must be Africans currently studying M.A. Film Culture and Archiving Studies with the National Film Institute/University of Jos. Candidates must have completed the registration process for the M.A. programme and should have proven excellent academic achievements records.
“They should also not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship whether National or International. In order to benefit for the Scholarship, interested persons should apply for the 24-month Master of Arts programme in Film Culture and Archiving Studies in the University of Jos Department of Theatre and Film Arts being run in collaboration with the Nigerian Film Corporation/National Film Institute through the web portal https://portal.unijos.edu.ng/Account/AddmissionRegistration?programme=Masters.”
