As part of activities lined up to mark his two years in office, Governor Abdullahi Sule has distributed twenty-five Sports Utility Vehicles, SUVs to First Class traditional rulers in the state.

The Governor while flagging off the distribution of the vehicles on Tuesday in Lafia, said the gesture was aimed at providing functional mobility to the traditional rulers to enable them serve the state better.

He said he gave approval for the procurement of the vehicles when the traditional rulers made a request and the proposal was brought before him by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON.

“The traditional rulers deserve support from the government just the way they have stood by the government towards surmounting challenges since assumption of office.

“We recently procured vehicles for magistrate and restored full salary for state civil servants and pensioners despite the economic difficulties we are going through.

“It will be a de-service to the state and traditional institutions if a vehicle of a traditional ruler breakdown on the way despite their roles in the development of the state,” the governor said.

In his remarks, Aminu Maifata, ALGON Chairman who doubles as the Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area said the vehicles were procured by the various LGAs.

The ALGON Chairman said they decided to extend the gesture to the traditional rulers because of their enormous contributions to the peace, unity and development of the state.

Maifata said the LG Chairmen started the projects for the procurement of the vehicles more than one year ago and expressed gratitude to God, the governor and others toward ensuring the success of the event.

He, on behalf of all the LG Chairmen expressed gratitude to their people for giving them the opportunity to serve and promised to continue to deliver good governance in their respective areas.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, Sidi Bage, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs expressed gratitude to the Chairmen and the governor for the gesture.

The Emir of Lafia said as traditional rulers, they would continue to do their best to support government peace initiative in their respective domain.
