Going forward, all corps members posted to Akwa Ibom state for the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps programme will be deployed to schools.
This was one of the resolutions reached at the Executive Council meeting on Monday, presided over by Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ini Ememobong, at a post council meeting briefing with journalists said corps members posted to the State will be deployed to school to teach.
“All youth corps members posted to the state are to be assigned to schools to teach.”
Mr. Ememobong said the Council also directed the Ministry of Education to make agricultural science a compulsory subject in schools.

He added that Cpuncil also directed that farms should be established in all schools in the state.
“The Ministry of Education was directed to make Agricultural Science a compulsory subject in all public secondary, technical and primary schools. Agricultural science teachers to be recruited and posted to all schools.
“Council directed that School farms should be established in all Public Secondary, Technical and Primary Schools in the state.”

The Commissioner said the Council also approved the upgrading of sexual and gender-based violence response unit to a department in the Ministry of Justice to give it more capacity to tackle sexual offences.
“To tackle the rise in sexual and gender-based violence, council upgraded the sexual and gender-based violence response unit to a full department in the Ministry of Justice. The department will collaborate with the Ministries of Women Affairs & Social welfare and Health and other critical agencies. Council charged the respective ministries to ensure that rape and other related crimes are tackled effectively”, Mr. Ememobong added.
