The Akwa Ibom state government says all entry points into the state will be closed on Saturday 31st October during her local government election.

All borders into the state will remain closed between 7a.m to 2p.m during the councils’ election, according to a statement by the secretary to the state government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem.

The statement adds that there will be restriction of movement within the state during the election in addition to the subsisting state-wide curfew.

The restriction order is to ensure a hitch-free election into the local government councils.

“In compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) will conduct elections on 31st October, 2020 as earlier announced.”

“In order to ensure a free, fair, credible and peaceful conduct of elections into the 31 Local Government Councils of Akwa Ibom State, the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has directed that all Inter-state border entry points, leading into Akwa Ibom State, be closed from 7am to 2pm on Saturday, 31st October, 2020.”

“That human and vehicular movements be restricted from 7am to 2pm on Saturday 31st October, 2020.”

The statement urges eligible voters to stay within the premises of their polling units during the period of the elections.
