Engr. Charles Ugwu has been elected chairman, Peoples Democratic Party Imo state. Ugwu was elected during the state congress of the party held at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Complex, Prefab, Owerri.
Ugwu while fielding questions from newsmen promised to maintain the tenets of the party while expressing confidence that the party will reclaim power in the state during the next election.

He said the party will be run in such a manner that the governor will be under the party, not the situation where the governor will Lord it over the party. He said under such arrangement, the party will be held responsible for anything that happens in the government
Earlier while fielding questions from newsmen, Emeka Ihedioha said PDP has always been a party of ordaliness that believes in internal democracy. He said the congress was structured in such a manner that the COVID-19 protocols were observed.
“Very well organized, quite orderly, spirit very high enthusiasm very perfect. I am happy with my fellow party members for keeping the spirit of the party high. It is an all involving process, we have opened our doors wide for everybody.

“Don’t forget that this was the same venue I emerged as the governorship candidate of our great party. It is also where the last executive emerged four years ego in a very transparent process, that is the same thing we are witnessing here today”.
Other PDP stakeholders who fielded questions from newsmen included the Senator representing Owerri Zone in the Senate, Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, member representing Mbaitoli and Ikeduru in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Henry Nwawuba, his counterpart representing Aboh Mbaise and Ngor Okpala, Hon Bede Eke, the South East Organizing Secretary of the Party, Chief Victor Assams , member representing Oguta in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Frank Ogboma insisted that Imo remains PDP state.

They lauded the orderly and peaceful manner in which the congress was conducted and for complying with all the COVID-19 protocols. They re echoed the optimism that the party will soon take back power in the state during the next election.
