The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom state has elected Mr Udo Ekpenyong, as her state chairman.
Ekpenyong, who is the immediate past commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs in the state, was elected at a congress held on Thursday at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium, Uyo.
Ekpenyong and all other state officers of the party, who will be sworn-in on Monday 3rd August, were elected unopposed.

In his acceptance speech, Udo Ekpenyong, pledged his continued loyalty to the leadership of the party.
Addressing the congress, the leader of the party in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel, lauded the out-gone executive of the party for leading and handing over a strong and united party.

“In the last three years there has been no issue. I have never gone to the party office for once to settle issue. I thank the Paul Ekpo led state executive committee for the unity experienced in the party.”
Emmanuel said the PDP in Akwa Ibom state has remained a model in party politics and democratic practice in the country, citing the orderly manner with which the congress was conducted.

“PDP in Akwa Ibom state is a model of party politics. This is seen in the peaceful, orderly, and cohesive manner with which the state congress has been conducted.”
The governor urged the new executive led by Mr Udo Ekpenyong to be faithful.
“We want to believe that the umbrella will come out stronger, fresher and bigger after four years. Those that have been given mandate to lead the party today must remain faithful”, Emmanuel said.
