The Police in Nasarawa State have paraded 50 suspects arrested for various crimes across the State.

Among the suspects paraded were 21 commercial motorcyclists who reportedly lynched a personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency personnel, Mr. Paul Okon Anwana to death in New Karu, near FCT, Abuja.

Briefing journalists on Thursday 29th April 2022, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adesina Soyemi, said 12 of the suspects were arrested for kidnapping, 22 were arrested for homicide, 11 for cultism while five were arrested for other sundry crimes.

CP Soyemi disclosed that the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the command has arrested one Sanusi Shehu, a member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in Nasarawa and Kaduna State

“On 26th March 2022, while acting on credible intelligence, Police operatives attached to the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit arrested one Sanusi Shehu along Lafia- Markudi road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that, the suspect is a member of a notorious Kidnapping syndicate operating in Nasarawa and Kaduna States respectively, he was sent to Lafia by his syndicate domiciled in Kaduna State to purchase seven hundred rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition (AK47 Ammunition) from one Nasiru Umaru (not real name) before nemesis caught up with him.”

He said the Anti-Kidnapping unit also arrested one Ibrahim Hassan (a.ka Bature) who led the kidnap of one Abubakar Babiri in Jangwa vilage, Awe local government area in which N10 million was paid as ransom by his family.

“On 5/4/2022 at about 10:00hrs, information was received that, on 29/3/200 at about 01:00hrs, one Abubakar Babiri 23yrs old Fulani by tribe of Jangwa village, Awe LGA was abducted at his Ruga by unknown armed men; that the family paid the sum of ten million naira (N10,000,000) as ransom before he was released.”

“Upon receipt of the information, the Command’s Anti-kidnapping units were deployed to carryout extensive investigation into the matter and arrest the perpetrators of the act. Consequently, while acting on credible intelligence, the gang leader of the Kidnapping syndicate, Ibrahim Hassan ‘M’ 42yrs (AKA Bature) was arrested on 10th April 2022.”

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence and stated further that he took five million Naira (N5,000,000) as his share of the ransom collected and shared the rest to his boys.”

The CP also said that operatives attached to C division Lafia arrested one Isah Yakubu during patrol along Lafia-Shendam in possession of one locally made short gun, police uniforms, military uniform and protective jacket.

He said the suspect is a member of a kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate terrorizing Fadama Bauna, Angbade, Arikya, Assakio and environs.

The Commissioner said the command will not relent in confronting and rendering operations of criminals fruitless and sued for cooperation of the public.
